LET’S RETIRE THE WRONG QUESTION

Apparently, 60 didn’t get the memo.

The better question is: “What could change if I finally did this?”

At 60, I did not wake up magically younger, less busy, or fluent in college technology. I simply decided that my age had already taken enough things off the table without my permission.

Going back to school was not about pretending I was 20. It was about using what 60 years had already taught me: how to work, how to recover, how to ask better questions, and how to keep going when something matters.

THE THOUGHTS THAT KEEP SMART PEOPLE STUCK

Your doubts are loud. They are not necessarily right.

“01”

“I won’t fit in.”

You do not have to blend in to belong. Your life experience is not baggage; it is context, judgment, and perspective younger students are still building.

“03”

“It will take too long.”

Not every degree requires four traditional years. Competency-based options may let experienced adults move faster by proving what they already know.

YOUR AGE IS NOT THE PROBLEM

You are not starting from scratch. You are starting from experience.

01

Discipline. You have met deadlines that mattered far more than a discussion-board post.

02

Perspective. You understand why the material matters because you have lived some of it.

03

Resilience. You have survived hard seasons before. A confusing syllabus is not taking you out.

04

Purpose. You are not there because everyone else is. You know what you came for.

Your age is not evidence that your opportunity has passed. It is evidence that you know what wasted time costs.
